Barium Briarium

Black metal band from Norway

Barium Briarium was founded in 2004 by vocalist Kryss and drummer Psykopat. They were best friends, studied at the same school and lived in neighboring houses in the town of Rjukan, Norway.
This town spends more than half the year under a shadow, as it sits in a deep valley under towering mountains. Due to the low placement of the sun in the winter, the town lives in a complete shadow all winter long.

It was this darkness and night that influenced the band’s music, philosophy and images. During its musical career the band has released 9 studio albums, several singles, and has multiple appearances in the TV news in Europe and social media around the world.

In addition to its music, the band is widely known for its constant scandals, fights, antisocial behavior, violations of the law and numerous live concerts that ended in fires, destruction of concert halls, acts of vandalism and brawls with injuries among fans. Also in some EU countries, the band’s concerts are accompanied by mass protests of believers who perceive Barium Briarium’s music as a disrespect for religion.

Story

The story begins in 2002, when Kryss and Psykopat decided to pursue professional music careers and move to Oslo. Life in a depressed small town didn’t provide any opportunities. They began looking for musicians for the group, but it turned out to be difficult.

Kryss decided to perform an occult ritual, as a result he met his future lead guitarist Svart. The guitarist at that moment was severely depressed after his 19th divorce and was about to commit a suicide. A fateful meeting with Kryss gave Svart back the meaning of life.

Almost at the same time, Psykopat in a supermarket met Freki – the future keyboard player of the band. Psykopat looked into Freki’s eyes, saw the hellish abyss there and realized that they must stick together. At the end of 2002, a band of four moved to Oslo. There they rented a large house on the outskirts and began rehearsing in the abandoned Jotun paint factory.

A couple of months after moving to the capital, drummer Psykopat was caught by the police because of the fire that he started on the motel balcony. At the police station, he met their future bassist Hamar, arrested by the police for a drunken fight in a bar. Read more at Band page.
